Agua Milpa is one of the best bass fishing lakes in Mexico
Many people are very aware of the large ocean fish caught in and around Banderas Bay. But an unknown gem is one of Mexico’s hottest bass fishing lakes known as Agua Milpa, which opened to the public in the fall of 1997.

Agua Milpa
The expansive 70,000 acre lake is easily reached by paved roads in 3 hours, either heading from Puerto Vallarta or Guadalajara or by air to Tepic, Nayarit then a short 45 minute ride to the lake lodge. It offers an ideal food source and has an ideal growing temperature for bass, making it a hot bed loaded with aggressive largemouth bass, averaging from 2 ½ to 10 pounds. Bass are abundant! One angler caught over 50 fish in just 4 hours, with a 6 pounder topping the scales as his largest catch the day.
The area boasts some of the best fishing rigs in Mexico, all equipped with new or nearly new outboards, troll motors and swivel fish. Fishing fanatics from all over the world meet on this lake annually to try their luck in trolling for the biggest catch. Tournaments and most of the fishing activities are coordinated at the Puerto Vallarta Bass club located at the lake Agua Milpa Lodge.
Fishing activities are monitored and all anglers are required to have a fishing license which can be purchased either for daily use or annual purposes. Catching and releasing has recently become more prevalent, as environmentally conscious anglers become more concerned about protecting and increasing the sport fishing population for future generations. When properly handled and released, fish will continue to repopulate the waters for our continued enjoyment. Whether by sea or lake, come and visit Puerto Vallarta and its surrounding areas if you want to have the best fishing experience of a life time. To learn more check out MexicoBassFinshing.com
